In order to safeguard the consumers from adulterated and defective products in the market and to provide for better protection of their interests, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted. This three decades old act is being replaced by the new Consumer Protection Act, 2019 which will come into force from July 20, 2020.
WHO IS A CONSUMER?
The term “Consumer” is defined under Section 2(7) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. According to this provision, a consumer is any person who:
